Our Approach

Healthy at100

Praeventus is Latin for “to act ahead.” We named the practice for the idea, and we run it toward one goal: that you reach 100 in good health, not just reach it. Everything on this page works toward that in two ways: how we treat you day to day, and how we look after you year to year.

How we treat you

1

A person answers

Call during office hours and a person picks up. No phone tree, no callback queue. Whitney runs the front of the practice and knows most members by voice. If your doctor is with someone, she tells you when they will be free, and they are.

2

Your doctor’s cell

Every member has their doctor’s cell number. A question at 9 pm gets an answer at 9 pm, from the person who knows your history, not a nurse line reading a script. Evenings and weekends included.

Hi Dr. T, my dad just had a heart attack. He's okay, but it got me wondering about my own risk.

I'm so glad he's okay, Susan. That's exactly the right question to ask. Family history changes what we look for.
7:15 PM
Thank you. I didn't want to bother you with it.
You're never bothering me. I have you Thursday at 10, and we'll go through your heart testing together.
7:20 PM
Text me anytime before then.

3

Same day or next day

If you are sick, we see you today or tomorrow, in the office or on video. The panel is kept small on purpose, so there is room in the day for the unexpected.

4

A lobby, not a waiting room

Appointments start on time. The lobby is for taking off your coat, not for forty minutes with a clipboard.

5

The easiest blood draw you’ve had

Drawn in our office, by our phlebotomists and nurses, with no second trip to a lab. Patients bring us their specialists’ lab orders because they would rather be drawn here.

How we look after you

A typical physical, and ours

The typical physical has barely changed in fifty years, while what medicine can measure has. Ours is built around what can be measured now.

Cleveland HeartLab

Heart, every year

Half of heart attacks happen to people with normal cholesterol. ApoB and Lp(a) count the particles that actually build plaque. We measure them every year with Cleveland HeartLab, add an EKG, and watch the direction, not the snapshot.

ApoBThe particle count behind LDL
Lp(a)Inherited risk a standard panel never checks
LDL particle numberHow many particles, not how much cholesterol
EKG, every yearSo any change stands out

ApoB, mg/dL, over three years

One reading is a snapshot. Three show the direction.

Sentinel Panel
by Praeventus Health

The Sentinel Panel, our cancer protocol

Routine screening covers four cancers and starts at an age. The Sentinel Panel is our standing protocol for the cancers routine screening misses: six tumor markers, drawn twice a year, read against your own baseline rather than a population range.

1

Drawn twice a year

With your other labs, in our office. No extra visit.

2

Read against your baseline

Your own numbers from last time, not a population range.

3

A rise is retested in one month

Not six. Most rises are noise; a repeat tells us which.

4

Two rises, and we act
